B.8 Magnetic Stripes and Accessories


Like the magnetic logical blocks described under B.7, the magnetic stripes support children’s enthusiasm for the phenomenon of magnetism. The use of magnetic play objects greatly increases children’s attention levels and their enjoyment of the games. Because the magnetic tokens can be attached to a certain spot, many new applications are possible, allowing you to play and learn with the LiteScout® while it is hanging vertically on a wall or even upside down on the ceiling! The magnetic stripes set includes 60 magnetic stripes in 10 different lengths, 2 black markers, and an assortment of pre-printed and blank overhead transparency sheets. The variety of pieces allows for plenty of interesting play options. This set is also an excellent complement for the magnetic logical blocks described under B.7.

Notice: The magnetic film can leave marks and discolor the light area. For this reason, we recommend that you always place a blank overhead transparency sheet on the light area before working with magnetic films.

Game Ideas

Game 1
The magnetic stripes allow for free play and creation of simple pictures (e.g., tree, house). In combination with the magnetic stripes set, the magnetic logical blocks described under B.7 would be ideal, allowing for many more free-play and creative picturescape options (see picture at the bottom of page 22 – LiteScout Product Line).

Game 2
Place a blank overhead transparency sheet on the light area, arrange the magnetic stripes in a free-form pattern on the transparency, and trace the outlines of the stripes with a black marker. Then, remove the magnetic stripes and color in the tracing with black or color markers.

Game 3
Place a pre-printed overhead transparency sheet on the light area and match up the magnetic stripes with the pictures on the transparency by picture, shape and size.

Game 4
The lengths of the magnetic stripes were designed to allow children to do simple addition and subtraction exercises (see picture at top of page 22 – LiteScout Product Line).
