B.7 Magnetic Logical Blocks and Accessories


Experience has shown that children find the phenomenon of magnetism fascinating. This fact means that they will pay closer attention when magnetic objects are used to help them learn. The magnetic light area of the LiteScout® and the learning games such as the magnetic logical blocks support this concept. The set B.7.1 includes 48 black magnetic film tokens (B.7.2 includes 16 tokens), 2 black markers, 6 pre-printed overhead transparency sheets, and 5 blank overhead transparency sheets. Compared to plastic tokens, magnetic tokens cling to the light area extremely well. Because the magnetic tokens can be attached to a certain spot, many new applications are possible, allowing you to play and learn with the LiteScout® while it is hanging vertically on a wall or even upside down on the ceiling! The game also complements the games described in B.1 and B.3 wonderfully because the dimensions of the logical blocks and screens are identical.

Game Ideas

Game 1
The geometric shapes of the tokens allow for free play and creation of simple pictures (e.g., car, house). In combination with the picture sets and magnetic logical blocks, the magnetic stripes set shown in B.8 would be ideal, allowing for many more free-play and creative picturescape options (see picture at the bottom of page 22 – LiteScout Product Line).

Game 2
Place a pre-printed overhead transparency sheet on the light area and match up the logical blocks with the pictures on the transparency by shape and size (see picture above).

Game 3
Place a blank overhead transparency sheet on the light area, arrange the magnetic tokens in a free-form pattern on the transparency, and trace the outlines of the tokens with a black marker. Then, remove the tokens and take the color markers to color in the outline you made.

Game 4
Insert the magnetic logical blocks into the screens from B.1 and B.3. Because the magnetic tokens can be attached to a certain spot, you can play and learn with the LiteScout® while it is hanging vertically on a wall or even upside down on the ceiling!

Notice: The magnetic film can leave marks and discolor the light area. For this reason, we recommend that you always place a blank overhead transparency sheet on the light area before working with magnetic films.
